While in Europe recently, I couldn't help but notice all the new Transit Connects being delivered on transport trucks, all the Transit Connects being used in the cities we visited and the eight different car manufacturers building their own version of the Transit Connect. The demand for this particular vehicle is through the roof in my market and I could easily sell a few hundred myself. I have to assume the cancellation of the Transit Connect in North America is in part a victim of our EV mandates. It's sad when consumer demand goes unfulfilled.

I believe that it is probably more to do with the US import tax that was being avoided, the US treasury is trying to recover millions from Ford. It is such a shame as pre Covid, production was slated to go to Mexico and with the other manufactures also ceasing production it has left that market wide open. Why not put a van body onto a Maverick platform ?

I think it had more to do with it being a low margin vehicle that could not be sold as a “souped up” high margin one… and the shipping costs were too high!

Another example of faceless politicians with no accountability making horrendous decisions that cost us taxpayers billions of dollars. The whole board should be sacked, they obviously don't know what they are doing. Now we have to pay for it. Government, stay out of projects lest you want to be personally responsible for paying for your mistakes. You can't keep moving the goalposts after the engineering and construction began. There has to be a better way to get things done.

Not surprising to those of us who are in the automotive industry. EV's work for commuting in major metropolitan area's like Vancouver, but commercial, towing and rural applications don't necessarily work for everyone. Government should get out of this and let the market grow organically without mandates.

Message ActionsA couple of things about EV's. 1) they depreciate much faster than an ICE vehicle and after 8 years with no battery warranty, they become a boat anchor basically. 2) They are heavy, and you need to rotate your tires at least once a year, if not two, or you are going to be buying lots of sets of tires. Like ICE vehicles, they need servicing, but for different reasons. 3) Don't own them, lease them in a closed ended lease so you are not liable for the battery and the depreciation. EV's are good for basic transportation in major urban centers. Rural, towing and commercial applications are not good choices for an EV. My professional opinion.

Another genius government wastes $82 million taxpayer dollars on an unproven product. I wonder if they included the optional $12,000 hammers. It's sad really.Keith Gerein: Edmonton faces questions of calculated risk following $82-million electric bus failure“None of the buses have ever achieved 328 km on a single charge,” the proof of claim says. “On average, the bus range has been approximately 165 km in the winter and, at best, 250 km in warmer weather"- National Post, February 12, 2024.

This needs to be fully vetted before a decision is made on it. The ramifications could be disastrous for our economy and people need to understand what it means.

I get the feeling our governments are trying to paddle upriver instead of riding the natural current downriver and wasting their energy and focus.
